THE ASSIGNMENT
Create an ALL TYPE T-shirt design to illustrate a quote from a current national or international public figure or a historical figure using only a font or fonts that in—some justifiable way— reflect the author’s personality or “brand”. The application of the typo graphics to the object (t-shirt) should demonstrate the range of one or more type families in a variety of sizes.
Your t-shirt design must capture the author’s personality in such a way that fans instantly relate the product (t-shirt) to the author. Think about how the celebrity you chose “sells or sold” themselves as a public persona, and stay in tune with their image. Connect the person’s personality to the typeface’s personality. People wearing t-shirts are “walking media”, so you must consider how type in your t-shirt will be perceived in the end.
THE SPECIFICS
1. You’re limited to one typeface.
2. Must use front, back and at least one sleeve (sides optional).
3. Must cover at least 50% of the entire t-shirt.
4. Must contain the author’s name.
5. Must contain a brief creative strategy, in small point size (between 9-11), stating:
5.1_Some basic information about the typeface;
5.2_Why the use of typeface relates to the chosen personality.
6. Must use only type family and any punctuation found in the typeface, even to create images.
7. Do not distort the typeface in any way.
8. The entire quote must be readable in at least one instance.
9. The t-shirt must adult size S, M or L.
10 Maximum number of colors: 4.
11. Must use Pantone colors.
12. Must use inkjet t-shirt transfer paper to transfer your design to the t-shirt or silkscreen it.*
13. Must use a white t-shirt.
* You can find inkjet t-shirt transfer paper at SamFlax, Binders, Michaels and Walmart.
THE OUTPUT
1. You’ll have to print the t-shirt using injet transfer paper;
2. One mounted Epson output on board with a photo of someone wearing your t-shirt (Front side and rear view). Size the photo so the design is visible.
***Excellent craftsmanship is a must.
