Sophomore Entrance Review for the Graphic Design Department

Hey guys,
Just got this from Stan. If you're planning on applying for the program, you DO want to write these dates down. It's getting close!

Sophomore Entrance Review for the Graphic Design Department

Tuesday May 4th:
Sophomores turn in their portfolios between 3-5p to room 468.

Monday May 10th:
GrD Committee meets as a group to decide the next group of majors.

Friday, May 14th:
Sophomores should know by the 14th if they have been accepted into the Graphic Design Program.
Sophomores should plan to pick up their portfolios from 1-3p in room 468.

PS. Students who were accepted into the Graphic Design Program will receive an email by May 14th and shortly afterwards will get hard copy letters in the mail. Students who want to know how to register for classes for the fall should just go ahead and register as if they didn't get into the major. Otherwise you might loose a spot in a class if you wait too long. Students who get into the grd program will have their names submitted to Adam to be put into their fall classes.

Semantics_Examples

These are more examples of how to work with the three words you've selected. You should be able to translate the meaning of each word through its characters, just like the examples below. However, because your are designing a promotional piece (postcards), your words must look extremely visual appealing (to help you achieve this goal you should use colors, a variety of type sizes, different typeface families, for example).

Mounted boards_Reminder

Hello everyone!
This is just a reminder that your printouts should be spray mounted on boards. You can choose to work with 11"x17" or 12"x18" board and printout. Your board can be white, black (or chipboard, usually cheaper than regular boards). Do NOT use foam board.Your printout must cover all of your board (=your printout and board MUST have the SAME size) and you should spray mount your boards. Below is how your boards should look like:

>> An easy way to prepare your printout file is to create an 11"x17" or 12"x18" print document in Illustrator and go to FILE>PLACE, in order to find your photographs in your computer. Then, simply resize the photos (if needed) on the page. Remember to work with hi-resolution files so your printout is not pixelated.

>> Craftsmanship is a must

>> Write your name, class, semester and instructor on the back of your board in a neat way.
